Dopamine receptor agonists can cause excessive daytime sleepiness and sudden onset sleep. Patients starting treatment with these drugs should be warned of the possibility of these effects and to take care or avoid driving or operating machinery until these effects have stopped.

Apomorphine is a potent dopamine agonist which is sometimes helpful in advanced disease for patients experiencing unpredictable "off" periods. It is given as a subcutaneous injection and specialist supervision of treatment is required.
