Antipsychotics - depot injections

Drug Safety Update

June 2009: Antipsychotics and risk of thromboembolic events

Long acting depot injections are useful for maintenance treatment especially where compliance with oral treatment is unreliable. These would not be initiated within Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust but where patients already stabilised on a depot medication require a dose while being treated as an inpatient this will be supplied on an individual basis.

The range of depot injections used within the local health economy are those included within the Kent and Medway NHS Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT) formulary .
