Fezolinetant can be used as an option to treat moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause when HRT is unsuitable in accordance with NICE TA1143.

A specialist in menopause can initiate fezolinetant in line with the NICE TA, with primary care able to continue prescribing once the patient has been stabilised on fezolinetant and reviewed by the specialist (including the specialist to perform the required LFTs before initiating treatment and monthly for the first 3 months) with clear prescribing/monitoring responsibilities set out including any required ongoing monitoring of LFTs etc.

Specialist in menopause for the purposes of this is defined as: a BMS accredited specialist or equivalent experienced practitioner/prescriber who can demonstrate that they have received training in and/or have clinical experience of treating menopausal patients. This could therefore be a GP working in primary care.
