Stimulant Laxatives
Drug Safety Update
August 2020: Stimulant laxatives (bisacodyl, senna and sennosides, sodium picosulfate) available over-the-counter: new measures to support safe use
These increase gut motility and should be first choice in acute constipation. Prolonged use should be avoided because they become less effective. Co-danthramer is used in palliative care only.
