Important safety information (for all aminoglycosides)
In view of ototoxicity, the CSM has issued a reminder that treatment with a topical aminoglycoside antibiotic is contraindicated in those with a tympanic (ear drum) performation or patent grommet.
May 2024: Topical steroids: introduction of new labelling and a reminder of the possibility of severe side effects, including Topical Steroid Withdrawal Reactions
January 2021: Aminoglycosides (gentamicin, amikacin, tobramycin, and neomycin): increased risk of deafness in patients with mitochondrial mutations
August 2017: Corticosteroids: rare risk of central serous chorioretinopathy with local as well as systemic administration. Local administration includes inhaled, intranasal, epidural, intraarticular, topical dermal and periocular routes. Advise patients to report any blurred vision or other visual disturbances.

This is a generic equivalent product to Triadcortyl OTIC ear ointment. It contains triamcinolone acetonide, neomycin, gramicidin and nystatin.
