MTW & West Kent Degarelix Prescribing Guidance

Degarelix can only be initiated by a Consultant Urologist and /or Consultant Oncologist. The first 3 initial doses (loading and two maintenance) are under Hospital Care to ensure patients are monitored and responding well to treatment. Please refer to SPC for full range of adverse effects. Following the first 3 months of treatment of Degarelix, the patient's treatment can be continued by the GP or in the majority of cases Degarelix could be switched over to a different LHRH agonist at GP discretion, without Bicalutamide cover.

If there is suspicion that the patient is experiencing spinal cord compression or ureteric obstruction the Hospital Specialist team must be contacted.
