MTW - Agreed Alternatives During Medicine Shortages

THESE GUIDELINES ARE FOR USE WITHIN THE MAIDSTONE & TUNBRIDGE WELLS NHS TRUST ONLY

This section provides information on locally approved medicines alternatives during periods of medicines shortage. This is not a comprehensive list and advice from pharmacy should be sought if the medicine is not mentioned here.

Please note that any K&M regionally-agreed shortage alternatives will be included in the main therapeutic sections of the formulary.

Chlordiazepoxide Supply Shortage

It has been agreed that diazepam or lorazepam are suitable alternatives for the management of acute  alcohol withdrawal. Please refer to the guidance below for further details, including dosing information.

Urokinase Supply Shortage

Due to a temporary supply issue with urokinase, it has been agreed that TauroLock can be used at MTW as an alternative.
